Except for a few names, the old Dutch phonetic alphabet consists only of old-fashioned white male names, revealing a larger problem: the fact that in our entire society 'the white man' is the norm, often without us realizing it.

The initiators of Het Nieuwe Spelalfabet and De Bovengrondse wanted to challenge this norm, as science shows that language determines the way we perceive and classify the world.

As part of feminist collective De Bovengrondse I worked on this campaign on a volunteer basis.
